Cycle Ti Thunder

With the weekend coming to a close I decided to take a evening ride out to Leary.  I have not been on this route for some time.  I use to bike commute this route a few times each month. HWY 55 is such a joy to ride as it has low traffic and lots of things to enjoy.  As I ride on HWY 55 I pass small ranches, farms with horses, pecan groves and fields of cotton and corn. Seven Cycles 622 SLX Disc with WHITE WALL Cyclecross tires. I am going to ride the Dirt(y) Pecan 150 tomorrow. One of the major equipment changes that I had to do before the ride was to change my tires. The ride tomorrow is going to be mostly on dirt roads. One of the main design decisions that I made in selecting this bike was that I could ride dirt roads or do cycle cross trails.  I have not put tires on a bike with white walls in a long time. I purchased some tires from Cycle World and I tested them this morning on Doublegate Country Club, the private golf course near my house. I have run and taken my mountian bike on the course by poaching it during the early morning or late at night under the cover of darkness many times.  This morning was the first time I rode the 622 SLX with the cycle cross tires. I wanted to take advantage of the day light as I rode home this evening.  The wind was blowing 13-15 MPH from the NW, so I knew I was not going to have a speedy ride home.  I decided to just enjoy the ride and take some pictures. I have become a more relaxed cyclist post accident.  I use to get so frustrated when I could not ride at least 50 miles a day.  I would beat myself up if I was riding slower than 17 MPH.  Now I just really enjoy the ride no matter what.  It takes a lot to really calm me down, but now I think I finally get it, cycling is for relaxing.  You may think that I was already aware of this fact since I have been riding all of my life, but sometimes it takes a life changing event to make you realize reality. I had to read this article on the Seven website again after putting just under 75 miles on my 622 SLX.  I am glad I could not afford a paint job because I think the beauty of this bike is the fact that it is unfinished so you can see all of the perfect manufacturing skills that went into creating it. I had a really good bike fit a few months ago.  The folks at Podium Multisport in Atlanta know how to assess your physiology and they understand cycling and bikes at a level that I have never seen in my 40 plus years of cycling.  I went into the bike fit with a favorite bike in mind that I wanted, but as with any experience with experts I came away learning something that I did not expect, titanium is still a good material for building bicycles. My old Serotta was carbon steel, so I figured that my next bike would be a carbon fiber bike.  I rented a Trek Domane 4.2 last year when I was visiting Austin, Texas for a wedding.  I rode the bike for about 200 hard miles in 4 days.  I hit all of the chip seal roads and steep hills that I use to ride when I lived there and I was quite pleased with the ride and fit.
