First Bike Commute of 2017, Finally!

Image
Almost near perfect weather for my short ride to work.  Feet first bikes are lousy hill climbers.  I guess I should not complain since I am use to road bikes for taking hills. Almost 53 degrees at 7:30 AM, almost too warm for a jacket, but I wore one anyway. I just had to wear the BCC colors today. My new parking lot for my bike. I am going to follow  +Aixe Djelal  lead and name my bike.  I have named my mountain bikes, the bike color followed by Thumper.  not sure waht to call this bike.

Wednesday Morning Commute

Today was the first time I used my GoPro Hero4 Black on my bike.  I have a temporary mount set up on my head tube. I am still waiting for the beefier Ram Mount to arrive in the mail.  I wanted to show how well my Busch & Müller Luxos U IQ2 lighting system performed on dark country roads.  I also wanted to see how the Hero4 worked with default settings in the dark.  Pictures for your enjoyment are below. Here is my first GoPro Hero4 video.  Believe it or not but I have done a lot of graphics with computers, but video editing is brand new to me.  I know I will get better at this. My ride data.

Winter Heat Wave

Yesterday morning it was 22 degrees and I rode to work really slow. Today during my morning it was 52 degrees and I rode a tad faster. The biggest problem I have had this winter is the drastic changes in the temperature. I do not have a rack on my bike so I have to carry my extra clothes stuffed in my pockets in the afternoon when it is 30 degrees warmer than when I ride in the morning.  today I will not have to pack the extra gear as I rode in with just my arm and leg warmers on.  It was really humid as a warm front is pushing in from the Gulf.

Winter in the south, finally

Today as I rode another morning bike commute in the cold dark of winter I noticed that the grass on the side of the roads was finally dying out. Usually the weather does not get cold enough on consecutive days down here to kill off grass and weeds.  After several days with the temperatures dropping well below freezing the grass is finally turning brown. Today at my house the outside temperature at 4:30 AM was 29 degrees.  I decided to suite up with an extra layer of leggings to keep my thighs from turning red after the 25 mile commute.  I also added an extra layer by wearing my Cabal sweater under my long sleeve PCP jacket.  I topped this off with my favorite winter jacket, the Shower Pass Elite. The lowest temperature recorded on my Garmin was 22.7 degrees.  It always gets the coldest right before the sun comes up.  I am usually towards the end of my commute when the temperature drops to the lowest of the ride.  I stopped to take a photo of my Gar...

January 2016 is in the books

Image
I have gotten off to a slow start this January by only commuting 12 days.  I only rode 458 miles this month, but I am happy to be riding my bike again this winter.  I have had a few mornings in the low twenties and some thunder storms in the mid thirties.  One thing that I have learned over the years is: "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing."  -- Sir Rannulph Fiennes This is the first winter that I am wearing two pair of shoe covers to keep my feet warm on cold mornings.  So far it is working great.  My trick is to not only remain warm on my 25 mile one way to work in the morning, but to keep warm after I start to sweat.  I never want to get too warm when I am riding in the cold mornings where the temperature drops below 25 degrees. I like wearing my ShowerPass Elite because I can regulate my core body temperature by opening and closing the two zippers underneath my arms. I always were two pair of gloves during co...

Thursday Morning 50 Mile Commute

Image
Well I said that I would not get fanatical and start getting up at 4 AM to ride my bike.  The enjoyment that I get riding my bike in the cool dark mornings has too much of a draw on me to resist, so I am once again riding my bike to Leary in the morning. Today is the second time this week I have chosen to ride my bike out to the town of Leary and complete a 52 mile loop to work.  The early morning repetition of cycling always calms me and watching the sun rise is a daily treat. Morning sun colored clouds peaking through 100 foot trees Leary Road on the Kiokee Creek Bridge. Road sign is reflecting from my head light My route and picture location. My First Computer Delivery On My bike

Image
I have been riding my bicycle to   work for some time.  Today is the first time that I rode my bicycle for work related tasks.  Today I had to deliver a small form factor computer to HR for use as a digital sign player. The HR director stopped by my office yesterday and made a request.  I packed a PC in my Chrome Messenger bag and rode my bicycle across campus and installed the computer in the HR office.  I took the old computer back to my office.  What a nice bicycle install. Pictures as usual. No bike racks in front of Billy C. Black building, so using a bench. New computer running Rise Vision Chrome player installed. Old computer ready to return to my office Elevator shot of my Chrome bag and Beats Blue Tooth. Getting ready to cycle in civies with pants rolled up.
