Breakfast Ride June 2016

Image
This is a short video of the breakfast bread that we did on June 18th 2016. The ride started off with a light sprinkle so my camera which is mounted on the rear of my bike got raindrops on it. I did get some images of the participants in the ride.

Pecan City Pedalers Nut Roll 2014

Image
Yet another bike event that I helped out as a volunteer.  My cycling club, The Pecan City Pedalers , sponsor this ride each year.  The rides stars and ends in the beautiful  Parks at Chehaw in Albany, Georgia. I also did the T-Shirt artwork for this ride. Here is an Auto Awesome from Google Google Does it again.  I am so amazed at how Google grabs data and re-imagines it.  This is so cool, taking what I consider "poor" content and mashing it up into something that is presentable.  This captures the start of the 2014 Nut roll in Albany, GA It was a wonderful day to be out supporting the activity of cycling.  This was my second year working on the event and I always have fun. I also had fun reworking the Nut Man logo. The original Nut Man The new and improved Nut Man

Morgan/Dickey/Doverel/Herod/Sasser 80 miles

Image
Today I rode 80 miles with 50 miles of headwinds. My rule of thumb is that if there are winds blowing when I choose a route I always choose riding into the headwinds on the first part of the route.  Today's route was chosen my the Pecan City Pedlaers  (PCP)  ride coordinator and we rode with the tail wind first. Usually on a PCP club ride I try to keep with the group as long as I can.  During this ride I stayed with the group all the way to Morgan and a few miles past the small town.  At about mile 32 as we turned into the wind is where I decided that if I was going to ride another 50 miles that I would have to slow down and back off of the 19-21 MPH pace and do my own thing. I am pleased with my progress as a rider this past year.  I have been using the club rides as a means of increasing my cycling abilities so that I can ride faster and longer.  I was glad that today I could stay with the group for 30 miles and I did not feel stressed out or ...

Pecan City Pedalers 2013 National Bike Challenge celebration ride

Image
I had an enjoyable ride with the Pecan City Pedalers this morning.  I did not want to ride fast, but the lure of riding with friends and the sound of 14 tires on a country road allowed me to keep up with the group for most of the ride.  It was a beautiful fall day in SW Georgia, the winds were slight and the sun was not too hot.  A good time was had by all. We were celebrating the fact that our team, the Pecan City Pedalers Wing nuts came in first place for the state of Georgia in the National Bike Challenge.  I came in 10th place for the state and 737th nationally.  I was injured for August and September so I did not get the miles in that I wanted.  Next year I will do better.

Do not forget the cycling basics

Most of the time I write in my blog so that I can read it in the future and learn something that I may have forgotten.  This entry is defiantly something that I want to remember.  The unofficial theme of the Sylvester ride was Star Wars. My dad once told me If you are the smartest person in the room then you need to find another room. My 40+ years of cycling experience did not prepare me for running into the Pecan City Pedalers (PCP) cycling club (PCP) in Albany, GA.  Most of the places that I have lived in were nationally know for great cycling IQ.  I have lived in places like Portland, OR and Austin, TX.  In my opinion and my first hand experience the PCP has the highest cycling IQ of any town that I have cycled to date. What do I mean by cycling IQ? Cycling IQ is a term that I just made up for this discussion.  I have no verifiable facts to back up this statement so you will just have to believe my feeble memory as I ramble on about how great...

Riding My Butt Off

Image
Bike Commuter Cabal Jersey, #zombieraccoon I had to take a two week break from cycling due to a raw spot on my sit bone.   Not sure what was going on but I thought I had been bitten by a bug or spider of some sort.  I am going to start checking under my seat before I ride for spiders. I rode a few days and then had my shoe cleat break on my right foot on my way home so took the bike to the LBS for repaid.  Another few days off of the bike. In reflection I will have to say that the break from bike commuting was hard, but it was a good break because I was getting fanatical by trying to ride 100 miles a day which is not sustainable for me because I also have to work 8 hours a day.  I am all about cycling and sustaining my health and not going through extreme ups and downs with my cycling.  Next week I will start to ride again and see if I can get back into a moderate riding routine. BTW my Bicycling Commuter Cabal jersey and my Pecan Pedalers jerseys came i...

Always be trainin'

Image
This blog post is dedicated to my son  +Zak Wormley  .  I want him to know how much I appreciate his hard work at being the best that he can be. I also want to give some hints to all of the fathers who are playing with their kids and have them consider playing their best so that their kids can be the best. When Zak was about tall enough to where his head was at my waist I purchased a Little Tikes basket ball hoop. I put this out in the cul-de-sac in front of our house in Portland Oregon. He had expressed a desire to learn how to play basketball.  I may have had an influence on his choice of sports as I played basketball in high school and occasionally played pick up games when ever I could.   Space Jam was his favorite movie and we watched NBA games when ever we could. I made a conscious decision that I would always challenge Zak when we played basketball. One of the things that I did was to play center and stand in front of the basket and block his shot....

Endorphin Cycle Junkie

< sarcasm warning>   The following posting is full of tongue and cheek commentary about cycling and what goes on in my brain.  Humor is the main point of this blog post, but as with any of my public writings there is a bit of reality in my blog posts.  If you are easily offended or want to argue about scientific facts on human biology and psychology do not read this blog post </ sarcasm warning>   I am a child of the sixties born at the end of the baby boom.  I was (and still am in my mind) an African American hippie that dropped out of college and joined a religious cult and moved to the mountains during the early seventies.  I have been exposed to many addictive substances in my life from over the air TV to Green Giant frozen creamed corn in a bag and I have reached the ripe age of an early sexagenarian without ever having to battle any serious physical addit...

Coffee Cup ride

Image
When you look at the map of this ride it sort of looks like a coffee cup.  The Pecan City Pedalers  call this the coffee cup ride for this reason and because the ride starts at the Starbucks in Albany, GA. Today was another ride in which I rode faster than my usual bike commuter pace.  While my bike commuting pace is not really slow by most cyclist it is slower than the pace of the B class cyclist on these club rides.  The pace today was suppose to be 18-20 MPH and my normal pace is 16-17 MPH.  Since I am working on building up my speed and endurance having these club rides along with my bike commuting make a good opportunity to cross train on the club rides.  I have not missed a day bike riding since May 5th and these fast pace club rides are improving my ability to recover from an intense ride and still be able to bike commute the next day.  This week I logged in 373 miles. I am also glad to find that my weight has dropped to 18...

Last Ride of April

I rode with the Pecan Pedalers group ride this evening from Starbucks. I rode a little too fast for my comfort level, but it was good training.  So far this year I have cycled 4,268 KM (2,653 miles).  I am feeling good about riding and I am having fun.

Pecan City Pedalers C Group Ride for 4/18/2013

Image
I love riding down country roads in the evening when there is photographers "golden light.  I also love riding with other folks that love riding. I am glad that there is a C riding group because cycling in a group does not always have to be about how fast you can go.  There is a time and a place for speed and there is a time and a place for a G ride.  I like C rides because for me it s a balance of precision and relaxing on a bike. Hope to see the C group ride continue to grow and bring more riders to the club.  Alan Braswell  did a great job leading the ride.
