My First Double Century

Image
I'm going to document some observations and experiences from my ride from Albany, GA to St. Mary's GA.  I did this ride to have fun and to see more of Georgia. The most recent observation about the ride came this morning when I rolled my bike out of the hotel to put in on the truck.  My rear tire had gone flat.  I had put new Gator Skins on the bike on March 20, 2015.  I was sad to have a flat, but glad that it did not happen on my ride.  I did not want to change an inner tube in the dark when I was almost to the end of my ride.  Riding in the dark can be tricky.  The roads between Waycross and St. Mary's had lots of wood chips that fell off the log truck and parts from tire carcasses all over the road shoulders. There is no telling what I rolled over as I was trying to be careful, but at night I just had to keep rolling along.  I am going to try some 30 mm  Schwalbe Durano Plus HS 399 Racing Bicycle Tire  on my next long distance ...

Are we ready to rumble

At first I wasn't going to whine about the rumble strips in the hot on the edge of the highway. now that I have a nice bike lane I'm dodging all the old tires glass rocks and debris. if drivers are going to go to sleep get rid of the rumble strip and just let him drive off into the trees who cares

Getting ready to start the journey. This is my version of credit card endurance cycling.  The goal is to have fun on a bike and transport myself with human power to a hotel to meet my wife.  Then we enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Tomorrow morning I will be riding from Albany, GA to St. Mary's, GA.   +Sylvia Wormley  is going to drive the truck and I will meet her at a hotel. Here is my fuel for the ride. Hammer Heed Spiz and Hammer Perpetuem I put them in ZipLock bags to replenish my water bottles during the ride.  I learned about fueling when I was learning to be a trail runner. Perpetuem on the left Spiz on the right Here is my route I thought I would have room to bring my big camera, but decided that mow is not the ride for the big clunker.
