Thursday Night Ride Home

Image
Pretoria, Georgia I usually stop here at the intersection of 8 Mile Road and Leary Road to do equipment changes.  Tonight I was riding hard and started to sweat even though it was not really warm.  When I sweat and it starts to get cold I always want to put on a jacket so that I do not get really cold as the air temperature drops and I am wet. This intersection is  Pretoria, Georgia  which at one point in time had a purpose besides being a place for me to get off the highway to take a break from cycling.

Wow, I See The Light

Today was my first ride to work on my bicycle using my new Busch & Müller Luxos U IQ2 lighting system described in a previous blog posting . It is rare that I am overwhelmed by a product that I purchase.  To say that my expectations were exceeded by this head light would be an understatement. I am use to riding down two lane roads in darkness where the only light is on my bike.  My battery powered Niterider Pro 1800 is a great light for cycling, but when I run it at 1800 lumens the battery life is only 1.5 hours.  most of the time I ride with it at 700 lumens and the battery life is 4 hours.  I bought an extra charger so that I could leave one at work and charge it when I arrive after my morning commute so that I will have enough battery life for my ride home.  My normal commute is 25 miles one way which takes about 1.5 hours. The beam on the Niterider Pro is bright, but narrow.  I can see a little in the distance, and right near my wheel, s...

This is version 1.0 for my dynamo light install.  I used the existing bracket from my N iterider Pro 1800  head light.  I used almost 30 zip ties for this install.  I am thinking that once I have the light positions finalized I will order some wire with more rubber protection and have the ends made professionally. Red object is my Garmin 810 I have a B&M Luxos U  that I purchased from Peter White  Cycles.  I have been corresponding with Peter and Linda White for about two years before making this purchase.  I must say that they are a great company to purchase bicycle gear from.  I usually know what I want, but in this case I was clueless about dynamo lighting.  I read their web site for months and then I send them an email.  they responded and answered all of my questions. I ordered the SON Delux ...

Searching for a way to mount Luxos U headlignt on my bike.

I am looking for a way to mount this headlight on my bike.  I am using this Blog post to take some notes on my progress to solve this problem.  My hope is that the Hive Mind on the Internet will kick in and help me figure this out. Below is a picture of the light that I want to purchase from Peter White Cycles . One of the main issues is that my bike has a custom headset and the stem and handle bar are not the standard variety for mounting accessories. Here are some images of my bike. Chris King headset is 44 mm in diameter which is a custom headset SON28 ISO Disc Stem has my Garmin mounted. FSA Wing Pro Compact Handlebar 31.8 44 cm Black Here is the manufacture's standard mounting bracket. Nylon Headset Mount 1- 1/8" for threadless headset B&M471B11 At this point I am stuck.  Here is a link to Peter White Cycles bracket mounting page.  I will update this post when a solution is discovered.
