Cycle Ti Thunder

I have gotten off to a slow start this January by only commuting 12 days.  I only rode 458 miles this month, but I am happy to be riding my bike again this winter.  I have had a few mornings in the low twenties and some thunder storms in the mid thirties.  One thing that I have learned over the years is: "There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing."  -- Sir Rannulph Fiennes This is the first winter that I am wearing two pair of shoe covers to keep my feet warm on cold mornings.  So far it is working great.  My trick is to not only remain warm on my 25 mile one way to work in the morning, but to keep warm after I start to sweat.  I never want to get too warm when I am riding in the cold mornings where the temperature drops below 25 degrees. I like wearing my ShowerPass Elite because I can regulate my core body temperature by opening and closing the two zippers underneath my arms. I was on the local news on January 19, 2016.  I have been going to meetings for a few years now working on the Broad Street Bridge and now rails to trails and other multi use trails in Albany, GA.  I was quite surprised when I was asked to speak to two local news companies to talk about cycling.  Here is a link to the WALB article . Stats at Leary Road and Eight Mile Road My Garmin read as low as 23 degrees on my 25 mile commute to work today.  I enjoy the game of calculating what gear will work in cold weather. This year I have moved layering to my shoe covers.  I could not find a replacement for my neoprene Perl Izumi shoe covers, so instead I am using two.

I rode my bike to lunch today.  I wanted to take some pictures of high water in the Flint river.  Below is a copy of the flood warning. Issued by The National Weather Service, Tallahassee, FL 9:34 am EST, Tue Jan 5  Flood warning extended until Thursday morning... The flood warning continues for the Flint River at Albany.  Until Thursday morning.  At 9:15 am Tuesday the stage was 28.3 feet.  Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.  Flood stage is 26.0 feet.  Forecast: the river will continue to fall to below flood stage by Thursday morning.  Impact: at 29.0 feet: flooding will begin in the lowest elevations along Third Avenue, Highland Avenue, and Front Street.
