First Ride With New Hip

Image
I am bringing in the new year with my first bike ride in three months.  I went to my doctor for a checkup and I received permission to return to work and ride my bike.  I will not be doing any epic cycling events anytime soon and I promised my doctor to take it easy.  My next appointment is in 6 weeks to check my progress. I rode around the neighborhood with my neighbors Alan and Rachelle Bitterman.  We wanted to see what the neighborhood looked like in the aftermath of the intense storm that hit the area Monday evening.  Here is a link to the Albany Herald for more storm information. MTB Crash

Image
I just wanted to let my  close friends on Google+ know that I am not up to ridding my bike again.  I had a crash on my MTB last Sunday when my front wheel got stuck in a deep rut on a slight short downhill.  I was through to the ground really hard and my hip hit a rock and the impact broke my femur just below the ball.  I got a complete hip replacement on October 3, 2016. Today is the first time that I have touched a keyboard in over a week which is a long time for me.  I will post more stuff as I experience it, but I will not be on a bike for a long time.

Home to Chehaw Park

Here is the route that I am riding tomorrow to get to Chehaw Park.

Unplanned 80 mile bicycle ride

Image
Today I started out planning to do a short Saturday morning bike ride with the Pecan City Pedalers bike club.  It turned out to be an 80 mile ride that I rode by myself for about 55 miles. I started out riding with the faster group of riders.  I knew that I was not in the best of shape as I have not been riding much at all lately due to work related issues.  I have been down this road before, the sling shot theory.  The sling shot theory is how I re-booted my cycling after being off the bike for five years.  I knew that today was going to be one of those rides where I would get dropped at some point out in the country.  Today I got dropped about 9 AM, one hour into the ride.  I was struggling to keep an 18 MPH pace and when the pace line when up to 20 MPH, I decided to slow down and ride slower. So here I was out in the country heading up to a town called Smithville Georgia.  I had been there before a year ago with the PCP Race team duri...

Leslie Georgia

Image
This is my Saturday morning ride and I decided to write to Leslie Georgia. I don't have fast twitch muscles so I can only ride 18 - 20 miles an hour for about 20 miles. But then my long which muscle muscles take over and that's what I really like to do ride 15 miles an hour all day long.

First Ride on the Black Thumper

Image
Today after I got home from my trip to Atlanta I rode my Norco Torrent 7.2 for the first time off road. I rode around on the bar ditches in my neighborhood.  I have ridden these paths before on my Green Thumper, the Jekyll, but this time it was a lot easier on the 27.5 inch tires. Lonnie Wormley on private gated community lakefront.  I access this lake on bar ditch right of ways. The Black Thumper I changed out the stock pedales and added my Speed Play Frogs.  These pedals and my Nike Nuba shoes have been on  five of my mountain and road bikes since about 1989
